Alia Bhatt, a Bollywood actress, sent a heartfelt letter after taking home the IIFA 2023 Best Actress Award. The actress won for her work in Gangubai Kathiawadi by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. This year's famous awards event was held in Abu Dhabi, and Alia was supposed to be there. The actress apparently chose not to attend the ceremony since her grandfather's condition worsened.
Alia announced the news of her victory on Instagram Stories with the caption, “Thank you very much @iifa. I'm sorry I couldn't accept the prize in person. I would especially want to thank the crowd for their unwavering support. We are all really happy about this, including me.
Narendra Razdan, Alia Bhatt's maternal grandpa, was reportedly still in serious condition at Breach Candy Hospital on Saturday, only hours before the event, according to multiple sources. The Times Of India said that Alia Bhatt had arrived at the airport but changed her mind and will now go to the hospital. According to the insider who spoke with the site, “(Razdan) has been a patient at the Breach Candy hospital for a while. He had an infection in his lungs. The physicians intended to move him to the intensive care unit in the morning, and the family received a crisis call. It was decided to make him comfortable in the room rather than transport him to the intensive care unit.
The source said, “Alia turned around at the airport because she didn't want to be at the award ceremony when her grandpa was going through a really difficult moment. The Razdan/Bhatt family and Alia have not yet responded to the claims.
In terms of IIFA, Gangubai Kathiawadi also won other honors during the awards ceremony in addition to Alia's Best Actress victory. Among them are Shantanu Maheshwari for Best Male Debut, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Utkarshini Vashishtha for Best Screenplay, Utkarshini Vashishtha and Prakash Kapadia for Best Dialogue, and Sudeep Chatterjee for Best Cinematography.
